Chinese tech giant Huawei debuted the new Pura X smartphone at a launch event on Japan ArchivesThursday, with the device featuring a 16:10 widescreen display that folds into a compact form. Compared to the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, the new “Wide Foldable” – as Huawei is classing it – reduces black bars for a more immersive experience, according to the company. The 6.3-inch inner screen increases the viewing area by 40% for vertical videos and 30% for 16:9 content in landscape mode, Huawei further explained. The Pura X is the first smartphone powered by HarmonyOS 5, Huawei’s latest operating system, and is priced at RMB 7,499 ($1,035). Additionally, Huawei will launch a HarmonyOS-powered PC in May, Chairman of the Terminal Business Group Yu Chengdong mentioned at the event. [Huawei Weibo, in Chinese]
